Looking for a job is a process that can and often does wear people down and sometimes OUT. It requires a lot of patience, time, a good attitude and an ability to research to find appropriate results. Explore the market. Know where you are heading. Do you have that destination in place? If you do, it is a much smoother ride and it will minimize the rough spots. Know this: There will be bumps in this journey that are capable of knocking you out. And when that happens, the one thing you can and should do, is get up quickly and continue the ride. If you let the process, which is not always fun, get the best of you – You are beat. You MUST conquer the demons that lie in your path. The demons are typically the things that you let get in your way.
Strategically, there are many things to consider when looking for a job. Doesn’t matter if you just graduated college, have been in the work force for a few years or you are a mid/senior level candidate. There is work to be done and it’s UP TO YOU to make it happen. Identify and use your resources.
Who can help? What will your course of action be? Do you have a plan? Do you have a MASTER plan? Ask yourself, ‘how will I utilize my resources’ and ‘how can I add value’? Reach out to your network. Explore and learn as much as you can about the market you are interested in. As you begin to put the moving parts in place, you add clarity to the process and then you are in charge. And when you are in charge, the job search becomes easier and when you land, and you will, the taste is sweet.
