Interviews….. A very important part of the job search process.

Probably the most critical part – The deal breaker. I have seen great talent blow it because the interview didn’t go well.

If you get that far – there is a reason. Your skills and your talent , much of which is based on the resume, portfolio, references and how I/we market you is what gets you in the door. The final step is for you to do well, make the right impression and have the client fall in love with you.

What’s the best way to do that?

Know what and who you are dealing with.

Jimmy’s ‘prep talk’. I insist on doing a review with all candidates prior to an interview.

It’s more informational than support. However there’s definitely pep in that prep. Make no mistake – I am your advocate.

I encourage all the candidates to review the web sites, look at the profiles on Linkedin and get a good overview about the company and the people they will be meeting and hopefully, someday, working with.

This is not about you. It’s about them. They have a need – can you fill it?

You enter that room with a notebook in hand. Have good questions prepared. Show them you know about their business. Let them see you understand the business. Do not be afraid to refer to the notebook. Write things down. They will like it. They will feel differently about you b/c of it. It will make a good impression.

The net take away needs to be 2 things. He/she’s smart. He/she’s nice.

The resume already affirms your ability.

Leave them feeling ‘right’ about you and you are in. And if you are in then you are not out.
