The 5 steps comes to a close today with Follow Up.

You have been through a long, often times, tedious and sometimes, very unpleasant process of looking for a job. You spend hours researching, sourcing, planning, sending out resumes, networking which we hope leads to interviews and now you are waiting for some response.

Remember my BLOG a few months ago – ‘Worse Than No is No Response’? We all go through it. I experience it with prospective (sometimes existing) clients and you experience with the hiring managers and HR representatives from the companies you are talking to. And we won’t even get into the on-line resume submissions. No response, although very frustrating is part of the deal.

But, here we are – you have made it through the process, gotten interest and had an interview. The final step is the FOLLOW UP.

It may appear to be more cosmetic than anything else, however, it still plays a significant role and does complete the process. Besides, it’s the right thing to do. It shows interest on your part. It also exhibits a certain sense of ‘style’ and it definitely can show a potential hiring manager some insight into your personality. Do not minimize the importance of the follow up.

Ignore and be ignored.

This does not require anything long winded. In fact, I prefer that you keep it tight. Less is more and more is just too much.

You have to send separate em’s to each individual you met with. Do not send the same and definitely do not cc: the group. Take some time and make them different. Show some originality. Can be similar – but should be different.

The key is to keep it on point. Content should begin with gratitude for their time and kindness. Reference the job by title, your interest in the position and the company. Also include a reference to why you are a good match.

Hope you enjoyed the 5 steps for Job Search. This has been a departure from my normal BLOG and it has been fun for me. Don’t forget the free phone consultation I have been offering during these 5 weeks. For those of you that called – thanks for reaching out.
