It’s extraordinary how much time we spend on our jobs and our careers. Work, work, work…
Data supports the idea that we invest approximately 90,000 hours in work during our lifetime. Data also supports the idea that only 3 hours per day are productive. When you break it down, the numbers do not justify each other. What do we do with that unproductive, free leisure time? Seems right to me that we ‘tweak’ the dynamics of this imbalance and look at the math. How can we funnel some of our unproductive hours into something personally relevant? Something that will make us feel good. Something that will make us smile. Something that satisfies the soul. Something MEANINGFUL that adds personal fulfillment to our lives.
We should consider looking within and finding the things that will feed the heart and mind. Approximately 50% of the workforce is satisfied with what they do. I like what I do, and it’s meaningful work. Despite that, beyond my working hours, I still look for and need things that will feed my head and add pleasure to my busy schedule. We all need gratification. We need to enjoy life! I am, nor have I ever been, a fan of the term ‘work-life balance’. My 24-hour day breaks down as LIFE BALANCE, and that’s what I aim for – BALANCE. It’s not complicated. Find your bliss and make sure you add it to your day. Create some comfort around all that external noise that only gets in the way. Balance will make the day easier, one step at a time. It’s all about adding what interests you and making room for that in your heart.
