If you just graduated college, you are now about to move into the next phase of a young life. And, it’s probably one of the most meaningful times in a person’s life. Moving forward after 17 (or more) years of school and now you have to find a job. This change, this adjustment is a time to think about who you are, what you just accomplished and how to convert this and advance your life and move forward.

It becomes the next educational experience in your life. Make no mistake, finding a job is your job and your responsibility. Do you have resources available? Be smart about these resources and reach out. But, before you do, get a plan in place, sharpen the tools you have and get ready to take the ride.

It takes so much courage to first, recognize that a change needs to be made and then it takes even more courage to step away, get outside of yourself and begin to evaluate who you are and what it is you want and need to do.

At any age, this is a huge process to tackle. One of the most difficult things in life is to look at ourselves, do it transparently and decide that you can really re-tool who and what you are.

It takes a lot of grit to do this. You need to be a tenacious individual to manage a career sequence, challenge yourself and push for an impactful change and/or decision.

We all want to do what we ‘like’ and feed our head, but we don’t always get that opportunity. We can settle on a path that works but doesn’t satisfy. Can you resist the curiosity and the enthusiasm for something different – something new? The spirit in that thinking requires courage as well… Not to mention, it requires intellectual endurance.

We want the career choice to be a perfect fit. We want it to be an ideal situation. However, that’s not always the case. You want to follow your heart and you want to pursue your passion….as you should. But as you get through the process and discover that it’s not a perfect world, that’s when you step up and think about being more agile. Can you adapt to the unexpected? Hopefully, your answer is yes. Be fearless and do what you have to do. Think about what and who influences you. Think about challenging yourself and drive for impact. Be motivated, be consistent, be goal oriented and be persistent.

Trust your gut and find an advisor you can trust. This plays a key role in the search and change process.

Life mandates we move forward and with that comes change. These changes represent personal growth. Embrace this time in life no matter what it is. Get your head in a good place, be ready to make the journey rewarding and have the courage to open the door.
