Who’s accountable? Whenever there is an issue, problem, snag, mess to clean up, some kind of trouble, a complication or some setback – the 1st question that comes to mind, who’s responsible for this?

Somehow, it’s more important to find out who do we blame, who screwed up, who is ACCOUNTABLE?

When in fact the 1st order of business should be looking for a solution. Makes more sense to invest the loss time, as problems always cost us time, in making that time up as efficiently as possible. The best way to do that is with results.

Resolution is the best course of action. Let’s fix it 1st and then we can deal with accountability. There is a chain of command and someone has to be accountable.

However, I think blame and accountability are 2 very different dynamics. Blame often has a connotation of guilt and then we condemn someone for behavior that fails. Accountability, however connects to management and although similar to blame has to be dealt with differently.

People who get blamed try and hide the facts and hope they can float below the radar without consequences. Accountability is a more senior tag. Step up and take charge. Fix the problem and then admit that you are the one that should have seen ‘it’ coming.

You deal with the consequences, take your punishment, teach your team and learn from this experience and make sure it won’t happen again. That’s what real accountability is.

A true sense of maturity, someone that exhibits understanding and communicates in a way that will, in fact, insure this won’t happen again.

If you are accountable people depend on you. There are expectations and they have to be realized. If the crap hits the fan – you are the one in charge. Be consistent, be honest and be courageous enough to take the hit.
