It’s so easy to mask things and look for a reason or reasons to hide behind the barriers we invent. Yes, there are always times when the stuff in front of us is very real, very serious, significant and so profoundly BIG that it just stops us in our tracks. It freezes us in a fixed state, and it becomes so overwhelming. We need to take a pause, get some help and look for any way to get around it, over it, under it or best of all THROUGH it. And then there are the things that just get in the way. Stuff we let take control, when in fact, if we stopped to give it a ‘good think’, we would be able to see right through it and blow it away like a puff of smoke. These are the things that capture our imagination because we allow it to happen. We over-think. We create something that becomes bigger than it needs to be. We are all guilty of it. At work, at home, at play – Stuff happens. Indeed, it does, so what do you do about it? You deal with it. You confront it before ‘it’ becomes larger than life and takes control over you. If you allow the ‘it’ to influence you, then it will. Our job is to recognize the stuff for what it really is. Does it really deserve the time we invest? Do we want it to be front and center? Do we want it to consume all our attention? NO! Manage it before it manages you. Confront it and don’t use the mask.
