My job requires, like most the ability to UPSKILL. If we aren’t aware of the TRENDS taking place today, we begin to fall behind and should that happen, know this for sure – There are so many people that will jump ahead of you and with a blink of the eye, you are irrelevant. You become unconnected, superficial, and insignificant. There is no fulfillment in moving backwards. Life is all about moving forward.
I am often in awe of my colleagues at work. They are smart, interesting, and INTERESTED. They are willing to share and exchange ideas, knowledge, proficiencies and above all – KINDNESS.
They are all decorated with hard earned degrees. MBA’s and in some cases, PHD’s. I have an undergrad degree in Photography, Art & Design. There was a time when I felt insecure about that. What they have and what I don’t used to bother me. It did cause some uncertainty within me.
But as I got better at what I do, I developed more confidence in my own ability. Confidence, self-awareness, self-assurance, self-reliance and building off my CORE helped me move ahead.
I recognized that I have a great deal to offer and that a degree, although not to be minimized, isn’t the only way to validate oneself. I have other qualities that they don’t and never will. I have 30 years of experience. That in of itself is uniquely different. It’s not an age thing – No, it’s EXPERIENCE. It’s practical knowledge. It’s wisdom. It’s maturity. It’s HISTORY that, if kept RELEVANT and RECENT, it becomes enormous ADDED VALUE.
So, in time, I have come to learn that my MBA is ‘Mission to Become Aware’.
