As the New Year hits us as quickly as the old one has passed, it makes me think about the word, ‘New’ and what it represents.

Like most of us, I love new things. They generally are symbolic of something that has added change to our lives.

I, for one am a big believer in change because that represents, with rare exception, something moving forward and creating opportunities of growth.

New stands for something ‘recent’, up-to-date, original and something that is current.

In this ‘youth driven’ society – do we need to be “young” in order to be current or new? I don’t think so. If you think of the opposite of new – instinctively we think old.

How about ‘advanced’ or ‘developed’? Sounds better than ‘old’.

The word old is an immediate label and has a negative connotation to it. Advanced is a better perspective and alternative to old. And, it partners very well with new.

Advanced should personify experience and stand for someone that has developed their skills in life. If you are truly a modern thinker, you should be more capable of being imaginative than someone that is new to the work force and game of life. Experience should fuel your head, keep you state-of- the-art, help you remain a contemporary thinker with all the additional advantages of experience and it should be recognized and embraced

Want to keep things ‘new’? Be a forward thinker. Be original and fresh. Read, learn and make sure you share your good sense of knowledge with all the new guys out there.
