Next is maybe my favorite 4 letter word. It represents so many things but for me it represents what’s in front of us. It has NOTHING to do what’s behind us. Next represents OPPORTUNITY in all that we do. Can be your career. Can be your personal life. Can be simple day-to-day activities. Can be your health. Whatever is on the agenda today, tomorrow, next week, next year – NEXT is indicative of something to look towards and deal with. Maybe your NEXT is symbolic of something good or something bad. Either way, NEXT is on your radar and it must be managed.

We can and should prepare for NEXT. The beautiful thing about NEXT is we have the awareness, have it on our calendar, our agenda, our schedule, our ‘to-do’ list so we can stay ahead of it and organize, take control, regulate the details, supervise and find SUCCESS. The OUTCOME is a biproduct of NEXT.

Own your NEXT. Afterall, it’s yours and if you are not driving your NEXT, someone else is. That will dilute your ability to regulate, assemble the pieces of your NEXT and find favorable results.

You can be NEXT in line. You could be standing NEXT to someone. You could be waiting for the NEXT train. You could be considering the NEXT business meeting. You could take it to the NEXT level. Maybe you failed at something so you can consider, better luck NEXT time.

However, you slice NEXT, it will, with rare exception, be indicative of what follows, what’s coming, what’s after the NOW and allow us to have a succession plan. Proceeding the PRESENT, there will always be a NEXT.

NEXT is a great motivator. Don’t minimize how important your NEXT is because it keeps you honest. It keeps you whole. It should help you maintain a solid footing for all that lies ahead. We learn from yesterday, but we focus on today, tomorrow and what’s NEXT.
