All day, that’s all I hear now. It’s all about OPTICS. Substance, results, outcome, bottom line, the process all used to be important but lately, I see this profound shift where the bottom line is OPTICS. The appearance has taken hold and moved to the head of the line. What people see is often more important than what people do. Technique, how you do what you do, how you did it, the resources you engage, the network you tap into all used to be the focus. And now, the ‘look’, the attitude driving it, the ‘posture’, the impression seems to replace what really matters – The RESULTS. Afterall, OPTICS should be measured by the actual finish line. Seems to me the push towards OPTICS, how things look can and should be important, but at the end of the day, what we all really want and look for are SOLUTIONS. The way we get there does not have to play a huge role in the process, as long as we get there and achieve what it is we are working on. Results have more impact than the OPTICS. Doesn’t have to be at work – It can be at home as well, but show me what counts – What did you do and then we can talk OPTICS.
