As I continue to source talent and expand my client base, I hear the word ‘vision’ more and more. It seems like it’s on the tip of everybody’s tongue.
What’s your vision? My vision is…..
Curious – why is everybody is so stuck on this? The more I hear it, the less relevant it becomes. The hiring community has it’s ‘vision’ in place. Do they really care what you think? I don’t think so. What they are looking for is compatibility. Does your way of thinking align with theirs? It’s almost a test. It’s sure to come up in conversation. The thing to focus on is the need of the client, what they do, how they do it and having the good sense to understand WHO they are.
If you walk in with an arsenal of information, company insight, and knowledge about the people you are meeting – you don’t need a vision. You have awareness. You exhibit intelligence. Let the other side make that observation. The objective is to have them recognize their vision should include you.
The net take away is Peripheral vision. Can you process and do you see the wide angle?
Good leadership is visionary. Good leaders will read the signs, diagnose and determine what fits and what doesn’t.
