Winding down another year, it gives me and all of us time to reflect and think about where we have been, where we are and especially where we are going. That’s what counts – where are we heading?

The best point of entry for the New Year is hope and feeling hopeful that many things will improve. It’s nice to think that everything will get better, but somehow that never happens. Expectations can hurt you. Best to moderate that thinking and be realistic.

I don’t mean to imply that things are/were bad, but without question, no matter where we are – we want an upgrade. That is realistic.

There is much to be gained from the past. History, even short term offers all of us a chance to play it back in our minds and from that, we should look for self-encouragement and think about how we are going to move our lives into the New Year. But before you do – Maintain tolerance. Of yourself as well as others.

How do we improve? Best way is to review what we did, what we accomplished and where we failed. Who we hurt, who we helped, where did we give and where did we take? Seems reasonable to me, that if we take the simple route – we can expect a better year. Don’t get stuck on all the stuff you can’t control.

Focus on the core. Set priorities in place. Think about the things that matter most. Every year has a new beginning. This offers all of us a shot at building on the previous achievements/disappointments and adding new layers and more depth to our lives. This is not about moving forward – it’s about thinking forward. Have vision. Have purpose. Happy New Year. Happy Everything.
