Lately, as I listen with compassion, to clients as they tell me all the reasons why they can’t or won’t, I sit and patiently wait until they finish and offer support and encouragement to help them dial down some of the anxiety they feel. I know what they feel is real and not for one second, do I minimize how powerful those feelings are. Whether they are about to graduate from school or are a seasoned and experienced workforce veteran, they are all on the same bus. They share the same pain because they need a job. It’s a difficult place to be. To want something so badly, to need something so badly and not finding success must be frustrating. Rejection is unfortunately part of the process and that too must sting. Afterall, nobody likes to hear NO. After a while, you begin to doubt your own sense of added value. Am I good enough? Do I have the skills they need? Why can’t I land? What’s wrong with my resume? What’s wrong with me? Almost always it’s not you. It’s rooted in the way you are searching and are you utilizing your resources? Did you stop to identify that you have resources? We all have resources. Lean on them – They will help. So, when I hear I can’t, I won’t, I make it clear that it’s more about why you CAN and why you WILL.
