Several blogs ago, I wrote a piece called ‘Silent Running’. Maybe we call this the sequel.
A common thread in my business and probably in all of sales is the investment we make in ourselves. The infusion of time and effort that we put out there with the hope of some return is part of our DNA, and there is no way around it – it simply must be done. After all, without that initial investment, there is no way to earn any dividend. That’s the payoff.
However, we believe in ourselves, the product or service we represent and with purpose, we want to; no need to communicate with and target a specific audience.
I am constantly exposing myself to so many different people in my industry. Like all of us, I use as many communication tools as I can and try to manage the follow up in an organized way that enables me to stay in touch, be in touch, send reminders and wait and wait and wait. I rely on them to respond. It’s like an airport with bad weather. The board says delay. It’s a holding pattern that I have no control over. I wait for some reaction – an acknowledgment of sorts.
Frustrating place to be – It knocks me out how often I get nothing. Ignore me, avoid me, disregard the fact that I am reaching out with something that really does have value, could possibly help you and let’s not forget the ones that actually request something from me. You asked me to do it and I did.
Worse than NO is no response.
