As we approach the holidays and the New Year, many folks out there begin to map out resolutions. What will you add, subtract, change as you swing into 2025?
It always amazes me how much energy and time people put into this process. We reflect on the current and what is about to expire, year. What have we done? Did we meet all our expectations?
I am a fan of reflection. I consider that self-help, therapeutic and a great way to work with our success and failure. We embrace the success, and we learn from the failure. Doesn’t take much to look at oneself and be honest. If you can manage your own truth, you will do well as you approach the New Year.
Me, personally, I am not a fan of resolutions. I am more focused on INTENTION. For me, intent represents PURPOSE, OBJECTIVE, DETERMINATION, AMBITION. DESIRE, PLAN, ASPIRATION and to some degree, HOPE. All of this is driven by OUTCOME. I want RESULTS. Maybe it’s all semantics. Maybe it’s the same as resolution, but in my head, my approach seems less pressured and more productive.
Data supports, 3 out of 10 make resolutions. Just short of 80% of the resolutions made are health related. Only 9% stick to their resolutions and see them through. If that were investing, the ROI isn’t very prolific. If that was a batting average, your ass would be on the bench.
You can look at a variety of reasons why you didn’t, couldn’t and won’t, when in fact, all you need to do is look for the one reason why you did, can and will. If you resist change, you don’t move forward and isn’t that what the New Year really is, moving forward? Time pushes on and so should we. Progress, growth, breaking through and looking for ways to IMPROVE are better than resolutions. Just do what you want and need to do. If you let something, especially yourself get in the way, then that’s exactly what it will do – Get in the way.
