Once upon a time, ‘old school’ represented a conservative mindset and in time, it has morphed into something that describes people that embody principals, manners, a sense of tradition, commitment, and a true sense of what it means to take pride in the things we do and accomplish. Because of its conservative beginning, old school could be seen as a negative. But as time will do, everything changes, being tagged OLD SCHOOL is a compliment.
Old School represents something of substance that lies within us. It is symbolic of TRUST. Old School personifies consistency, a steady belief in yourself, almost retro, traditional, and in its own way, TIMELESS. Old school leans deep into our values and the things that make us whole.
If managed well, age and experience should balance us out and provide confidence in what we do, how we do it, who we do it for and how we are perceived by those we engage with. I love when my kids ask for advice. I love when my young colleagues at work rely on me for a sense of direction. Old school is knowledge, your history, your WISDOM, your INSIGHT, and your COMMON SENSE. Do not be afraid to embrace it. Own it. Share it and take pride in being OLD SCHOOL.
