As I talk to my clients, my students, my colleagues and friends, there is a clear-cut mantra at most work places these days…BE POSITIVE & POSITIVE MINDSET. That’s a great message and if you can maintain that positive energy daily without losing sight, that every day won’t be a ‘day at the beach’, you are cruising along. That said, some days just don’t reflect that positive feeling, so we must measure up, look beyond and find a way to keep our head in a good place. Something always gets in the way. It’s what we do with that obstacle that matters.
PE is an attitude, a way to stay optimistic, a display of enthusiasm, and a good way to spin a bad experience. Most things have a flip side. When the stuff hits the fan, turn it over and take a good look at that flip side. That spin can be contagious. Feel free to share it and influence. Afterall, PE represents support, encouragement, productivity, approval, advocacy, satisfaction, enjoyment, accomplishment, and closure. Collaboration is always easier and better when the team is POSITIVE, and if you have a leadership role, it will be up to you to set that precedent. You set the tone. You establish the mood. You define the character of your team. You have the power to establish the climate and the organizational culture. Be realistic. Be practical. Be reasonable. Be POSITIVE.
