One of the most significant hats anyone can wear is that of a role model. It comes with a lot of responsibility. When someone looks up to you, respects you for WHO you are, not WHAT you are, you are carrying a heavy load and it’s not something to take lightly. People admire role models for a reason. They will often emulate you. They will imitate you. They will follow you. They will look for the parallels and the symmetry between you and them. You can help people work towards great things. Role Models come in many shapes and sizes. You can make a choice to be a positive or a negative influence. RM’s can be family, professionals from work, public figures, media darlings, teachers, coaches, influencers, athletes, artists or your next-door neighbor. Looking up to someone can influence, impact, inspire in a very profound way. Consider where you are in life. Do you engage with people? If you do, there are opportunities to be a role model. Set a good example. Lean into the qualities that make for a good RM. Kindness, honesty, solid work ethic, being responsible, having good moral values, integrity are some and there are others. Having a set of core principles that message positively, having clear and well-intended values, being empathetic and being accountable are why you will be seen as a hero, an idol, a mentor, a paragon. Anyone at any age can be or become a Role Model.
