Adapt and Be Adept: You just lost your job – Something significant just happened. What do you do when the circumstances are out of your control and a major change occurs? Can you adjust and make the changes something positive? Can you get it behind you and jump to the front of the line? I hope so, because that’s the best thing you can do. If your mindset is good, you take something bad, take control and respond appropriately. You think about your core. You rely on what makes you good at what you do. You either transition smoothly or you get stuck in the Sea of Bad and bob up and down with no place to go. No direction is not a plan you can rely on. You don’t dream, you react, you work hard and you invest the time in yourself to make things better.

These circumstances represent an obstacle. Learn how to hurdle it, get around it and create an opportunity for yourself. These circumstances also represent interference. Learn how to look it square in the eye and push it aside. Do not let these circumstances beat you. No, what you do is ‘self-improve’. You find strength to get better and you move on.

You acclimate to what’s new. The conditions have changed and now you need to alter, modify, revise and prepare differently. You need to move things forward. Do not panic. That will hurt you in the process. Keep a steady mind – be practical. Who you know is a wonderful resource and that’s where it begins. Reach out to these resources. EXPLORE through dialogue. Use that as an EXERCISE to get an understanding about who you are and who you will become. Have the courage to consider big changes.

EDUCATE yourself and the resources you are using. Make them aware of your brand and the market you are after. Teach them how to reference you into possible work opportunities. Make it clear that the value you add is meaningful and will provide a real advantage.
