When you go away, you need to consider what to take. The amount of ‘stuff’ we take will dictate how large a bag we need, and maybe we need more than one. Figuring out what to bring causes many to stress out. Do I have the right things? Do I have enough? What happens if the weather shifts? The questions can drive you crazy and cause you to lose sleep. When you arrive at your destination, one of the first things we do is unpack and settle in. The unpacking is the easy part and when it’s time to return, that packing is also easy.
And then there is the reference to processing information. I often hear people say, ‘wow that’s a lot to unpack’. How do you break it all down, make it understandable and move things forward. How can you analyze things, break it down into smaller, more manageable parts? When we unpack it, we typically add more clarity, make it more comprehendible, minimize ambiguity, take out the blur, the vagueness and purify the ‘it’. Once we unpack and get our head wrapped around things, we can share data points, talking points and learn what the ‘it’ represents. There are always details to be examined. There is always something to discover. There is always information to be synthesized, to study, to research, to dissect, to evaluate and when you unpack that, you can make informed decisions, use qualified judgement, see what choices you have and move ahead with PURPOSE.
