Gotta get a job? Need to make that career pivot? Looking for that first gig right after school or maybe you are still in school and you are on the hunt for a quality intern position. Either way, you have to sit down, collect many thoughts and begin to put a ‘plan’ in place. It’s sensible. It’s practical and it’s the BEST way to begin the process.

Make no mistake, what you are about to begin is a PROCESS and with that, it takes time, patience, an ability to be pro-active on your own behalf and above all – it requires a NETWORK. Who are the key people (keyple)?

Make a list of the significant people that might be able to help you as you dig deep into your career search. Your best resource, and I have said this many times, is, YOU. Not because who you know, but rather, who they know. Everybody knows someone out there that provides a potential lead. Think of this process as an endless hallway of doors. Your objective is to open as many of these doors as possible and the end game is to have someone ask you to come in and have a seat.

Never worry about asking for help. There is no shame in asking people for help. It’s very important to put yourself out there and make your voice heard. If you are fortunate enough to get inside because of a job board, awesome, but most jobs are secured because of NETWORKING.

Asking for help does and can put some people off, so as an alternative to ‘help’, you can always position it as an ‘exploratory’ conversation.

Key is, by definition a ‘clue’, a ‘solution’, a ‘foundation’, something ‘significant’ and something that OPENS A DOOR.

People are the foundation for your network, so put them together and use your ‘KEYPLE’ together and make it happen.
