There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t hear people talk about mistakes. Let’s face it – We all make them. It’s part of life. How can you avoid mistakes? You can’t. The more stuff you do, the more you risk making mistakes. We make them at work, at play, during recreational activities, with relationships, making dinner, and the list can go on and on. Sometimes we are fully aware of the mistakes we make and sometimes and with the best of intentions, unconsciously, we make them as well. It is a fact of life – We are all guilty of mistakes.

Accept your mistakes. Stand up and admit it. Afterall, it is yours so own it!

The key is to learn from them. Acknowledge your mistakes and when appropriate, apologize for them.

Mistakes can be a great teacher. Lessons learned from mistakes can take you a long way. You analyze them, get feedback so you don’t do it again and then you can share what you learned with colleagues, friends, and family. Let them all find value from your experience.

As a Career Coach, I work hard to instill in my clients head that FAIL represents First Attempt In Learning and if you pay attention to your mistakes, you have way more to gain than lose. Share what you learn and maintain that mindset. It benefits everybody and never let your mistakes define you. Remember, we all make them. It can be the best opportunity for your brain to adjust and learn. Mistakes will make you stronger, better, and smarter. Mistakes can force you to innovate and redirect to a positive outcome. Mistakes force you to increase critical and analytical thinking skills. Mistakes push creativity, build resiliency, teach, and provide wisdom. Mistakes add reference points, lead to new discoveries, teach us how to experiment and take risks. Mistakes can help us better understand ourselves and owning them takes courage.

Make them, embrace them, and remember, we all make them.
